Thursday 20 June 2024 Year 7 Royal Navy Helicopter Workshop Year 7 have been taking part in a Royal Navy workshop this week. They have been learning all about the Royal Navy and helicopters. The Royal Navy spoke about their careers before pupils started building their own paper helicopters and engineering them to stay in the air longer. The sessions ended with the students competing against each other to see who had managed to produce the most successful helicopter, determined by which one stayed in the air the longest. Special prizes were also awarded to those who had shown creativity in their designs and excellent engineering skills.

Thursday 20 June 2024 Year 9 Alternative Work Experience Day Year 9 took part in an ‘Alternative Work Experience’ day, in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and Urban Hax, looking at the regeneration of the Guildhall in Walsall town centre. Students were informed of the regeneration project taking place at the Guildhall and what the space will become. Students were set the task of coming up with a product which could be created and sold in one of the creative spaces Urban Hax are ultimately creating in the Guildhall, but in the short term in the ‘Meanwhile’ in the Sadlers Centre in Walsall.

Thursday 20 June 2024 Students at Aldridge School shadow the Yoto Carnegie Medal A group of avid readers in Year 8 have been very busy over the past few months reading, discussing, reviewing, and voting on the eight titles shortlisted for the Yoto Carnegie Medal. As part of the shadowing, students explored the criteria used by judges to select a book of outstanding literary quality.

Wednesday 12 June 2024 BCU Health Practitioners Workshop - Year 10 Aldridge students were given a talk on the wide range of occupations within the field of health, such as physiotherapy, radiography and paramedics. Then they were able to actually experience some of the equipment used to train healthcare workers. CPR dummies, stethoscopes and even a laparoscopy machine were brought in for students to use and demonstrate their skills.

Wednesday 12 June 2024 BCU STEM Day - Yr 9 On Thursday 6th June, around 50 Year 9s were involved in a BCU STEM activity. They had to build a self-moving vehicle by joining circuits together. They learned how to follow instructions precisely, work collaboratively, and perseverance when things didn't always go to plan!

Friday 17 May 2024 BCU Poetry Slam Showcase On 8th May, following their four-week 'Memorhyme' literacy project with Richard 'Dreadlockalien' Grant and Alan 'Kurly' Mc Geachie, 12 students were personally selected by both performance poets to showcase their work at the Birmingham City University Poetry Slam Showcase/Recording at their state of the art media space.

Friday 17 May 2024 Students work with former Birmingham Poet Laureate and renowned performance poet 60 lucky students had the opportunity to work with former Birmingham Poet Laureate Richard ('Dreadlockalien') Grant and renowned performance poet Alan ('Kurly') McGeachie on a 4-week 'Memorhyme' project to improve our students' literacy skills through the use of spoken word poetry and digital platforms.

Tuesday 14 May 2024 U13 Cricket: Aldridge vs QMGS Aldridge U13 cricket team got their season off to a fantastic start with a hard-fought victory against Queen Mary's Grammar School on Monday evening. The team played excellent with a special mention to J. Close hitting 36 not out and S. Wicker who took 3 wickets and 4 catches.

Friday 10 May 2024 U15 Walsall School Cricket Competition Congratulations to our Under 15 Boys Cricket team who won the Walsall Schools Cricket competition, beating out Walsall Academy and Pool Hayes convincingly!

Wednesday 8 May 2024 Year 7 Student Completes Race for Life S. Smith (Year 7) completed the 5k, race for life mud run at the weekend. He raised £250 for Cancer Research UK. He embraced every obstacle with enthusiasm. A great effort for a very worth while cause.

Monday 29 April 2024 Year 8/9 Girls Football Success Congratulations to our Year 8/9 girls football team who have made it through to the final of the West Midlands County Cup. The final will take place on Wednesday 01st May.

Friday 26 April 2024 Year 8 Smoking Cessation Workshop Year 8 took part in a Smoking Cessation play and workshop on Thursday; there were important messages communicated about the dangers of tobacco and our students were engaged and enthusiastic throughout. We look forward to hosting more of these events in the future

Wednesday 20 March 2024 'We need to Talk About Masculinity' - a Collaboration between Aldridge School, Catcher Media and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. We Need To Talk About Masculinity is a unique collaboration between Aldridge School students working with a media company, Catcher Media, and the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. Students helped to devise and acted in a hard-hitting drama about healthy and so-called ’toxic’ masculinity. It’s a highly relatable story set in the school and filmed over three days.

Tuesday 19 March 2024 Fabulous evening of music at Aldridge School's Spring Concert Last night the Music Department, Mr Turner, Mrs Dudley and Mrs Gardner led the talented students at Aldridge School in a musical feast which included pieces by Beethoven, Elgar and songs attributed to Meatloaf. The players ranged from our Sixth Form to Year 7s and included choral numbers, jazz band, solo performances, and full orchestras.

Wednesday 13 March 2024 School Golf Competition L. Jenkins (Year 11) competed in the schools golf tournament on 11th March 2024 at Hollinwell. He played so well in such tough conditions, wind, damp, drizzle, and the ground was sodden. Unfortunately he didn’t come away a winner in the tournament but a winner in our eyes. He played against an 18 year old and 16 year old and he really held his own.

Wednesday 13 March 2024 Staffordshire County Cricket Finals After winning the southern section of the Staffordshire County Indoor cricket competitions (the only comprehensive school in the county to qualify with two teams), both Aldridge U13 and U15 teams competed in the final's day at Aldersley Leisure Village. Our students competed against the best teams in the Staffordshire County from Queen Mary's Grammar, Wolverhampton Grammar, Newcastle Under Lyme School, Painsley, Blythe Bridge and Alleyne's school. The boys competed brilliantly with some amazing individual and team performances. U13's finished 5th in Staffordshire and U15's finished 3rd in Staffordshire. We are so proud of every one of them and are excited to see them perform in the outdoor season this summer!
