Year 7 Book Week Prize-giving Ceremony
Over 120 prizes were presented to Year 7 students, as part of Aldridge School’s annual Book Week! The school was delighted to welcome Dr Lyle Weir, Director of English and Creative Writing at Coventry University, to present the prizes.
Dr Weir has written many academic publications, and his last one was tied to a documentary he made whilst working with refugees on a military camp in Greece. During this project, storytelling workshops were used to help refugees tell the story of their displacement from Syria, and the dangers of crossing from Syria to Turkey, and then to Greece.
The students were fascinated by the life experiences Dr Weir shared about his education and his journey.
M Jones, Year 7 pupil, said, “I have really enjoyed Book Week, and I am so happy to have won a signed copy of Chris Priestley’s book! Dr Weir’s talk was very interesting, and he has given us lots of advice on raising our aspirations.”
