Slam Poetry Packs a Punch with Year 8 Pupils at Aldridge School

Young poets in Year 8 got down to some serious Slam Poetry with visiting performance poet Giovanni ‘Spoz’ Esposito.

The pupils not only wrote their own poems, but also took part in an X Factor style competition by performing their work in front of a panel of judges.

Spoz, based in Birmingham, is an award-winning performance poet, singer/songwriter and playwright. He was the poet-in-residence at Birmingham City FC and has performed on BBC Radio 4, and appeared on BBC and Central Television. Spoz also performed one of his poems at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Spoz praised our students by saying: “I work in lots of schools and these students were fantastic with their creative verse, they got it spot on!”

N Houghton, Year 8 student, added: “The whole day was fun!  I really enjoyed myself and at the same time I have improved my poetry skills.”
