Slam Poetry Packs a Punch with Year 8 Pupils

Young poets in Year 8 got down to some serious Slam Poetry with visiting performance poet and musician Damani Dennisur.

As part of the workshop, pupils wrote and performed their poems and watched Damani perform some of his fantastic poetry.

Damani, based in Birmingham, started his journey as a poet at the age of 12, showing that it is never too early to start writing! At the age of 14 he became Birmingham’s 7th Young Poet Laureate, and has since taken part in festivals, and written poetry for organisations such as the NSPCC and BBC. He has also released multiple music albums and currently has over 200,00 Tik Tok followers!

Damani praised our students by saying: “The students were incredible with their creative verse; they got it spot on!”

J Russell, Year 8 student, added: “The whole day was fun!  I really enjoyed myself and at the same time improved my poetry skills.”
