Book Week
Year 7 and 8 pupils were entertained by author, Chris Priestley, as part of the school’s annual Book Week. The students were fascinated by the insight he gave them into the world of writing.
Chris is a master of suspense and gothic tales, and his novels are inspired by the long-loved tradition of horror stories by Edgar Allan Poe and Mary Shelley.
He has been shortlisted for a variety of prestigious children’s book awards including the Edgar Awards, the UKLA Children's Book Award and the Carnegie Medal.
Pupils in Year 7 produced some excellent artwork based on Chris Priestley’s “Uncle Montague’s Tales of Terror” book, and have been very much inspired by his visit.
L Stone, Year 7 pupil, said, “Book Week has been really fun! Chris Priestley’s talk was very exciting, and he has encouraged me to read more books.”
Book Week is one of the ways in which Year 7 pupils are integrated into school life and encouraged to read for pleasure. During the first term various book-related competitions have taken place and over 120 prizes will be distributed at the prize giving ceremony on Thursday 24th October. The school are delighted to welcome Dr Lyle Weir, Director of English and Creative Writing at Coventry University, to present the prizes.
