Aldridge students get stuck into books

Young bookworms helped to add a new chapter to the school’s fundraising activities when they raised an amazing £1569.96 in a mammoth Readathon.

Students in Year 7 and 8 read hundreds of books to raise thousands of pounds for good causes.

Money from the sponsored “Read for Good” will be spent on an extensive hospital programme which provides mobile bookcases packed with new books, and author visits to every major children’s hospital across the country. The rest of the money will go to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, who continue to provide amazing support to seriously ill children.

Since 2007 the school has raised more than £27,000 by encouraging children to take part in its annual Readathon.

Jodie Wong, Year 8 pupil, said, “I loved taking part in the Readathon. It encouraged me to read more books and gave me the opportunity to help children who are less fortunate than me.”
