Slam poetry packs a punch with Aldridge students

Young poets at Aldridge School got down to some serious slam poetry with visiting performance poet Giovanni ‘Spoz’ Esposito.

Pupils in Year 8 got the chance to write their own poems and took part in an X Factor-style competition performing their work in front of a panel of judges.

Spoz, based in Birmingham, is an award-winning performance poet, singer/songwriter and playwright. He was the poet-in-residence at Birmingham City FC and has performed on BBC Radio 4, and appeared on BBC and Central Television.

Spoz praised our students by saying: “I work in lots of schools and these students were wicked with their creative verse, they got it spot on.”

Isabelle, Year 8 student, added: “The whole day was absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed myself and at the same time I improved my poetry skills.”
