High Commendation at the 2019 LSA Classics Competition

On Saturday the 9th of February, I was lucky enough to be invited down to Lytham St Anne’s to represent Aldridge school at the LSA classics competition 2019 and be awarded with a highly commended certificate for my entry into the competition. Once I arrived, I was able to meet the finalists and talk to them about their three chosen artifacts, it was interesting to compare what we had all learnt from our research for the competition and it was clear to see our interest in the subjects we were discussing. I was then later introduced to Professor Michael Scott which was a surreal experience as I am a big fan of his work. After meeting everyone, the competition got underway and I was able to listen to the four finalists presentations which all allowed me to learn about artifacts I had not heard about before and expand on my classics knowledge. Watching these presentations has also allowed me to see the expectations to be able to enter again next year and hopefully be a finalist.

Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity that came from classics club and my teacher Miss McOmish that enabled me the chance to enter the LSA classics competition because it has allowed me to research further into artifacts which I am curious about for a subject that thoroughly interests me. I am ambitious to expand more on my knowledge in my further studies of ancient history later on through my studies of a level and hope to enter the competition again next year.
