Victory for Aldridge

On a chilly winters Saturday at George Salter Academy, we represented the school in two ages groups, after qualifying via the Walsall Netball tournament.

The Under 14s team consisted of a mix of year 8 and 9 girls and they all demonstrated phenomenal teamwork and determination. We played 5 games in total, of which we won 3 games, including the first win of the day against the eventual runners up. We had a excellent attack that linked well and they managed to score 25 goals. At the back the defenders fought well to keep the other teams at bay and limit scoring opportunities. In the centre court the team coordinated play really well to win back some excellent challenges. In the end we finished 3 points short of qualifying, in 4th place. It was a great day for the years 9 to show off their talent as well as a great experience for the year 8s. Watch out 2019…

The Under 16s team faced some very tough competition over their 6 games. The team finished with 2 wins and 1 draw, as well of collecting a couple of bonus points for reaching half of the other teams score.  They also scored an amazing 44 goals including 4 against the overall winners – more than any other team. In previous years our points total would of seen us safely through. The team consisted of a large number of year 10s and the experience should help prepare them for the same tournament next year. They supported our very talented year 11s excellently – well done all.

We are so proud of the girls.  They demonstrated excellent skills great teamwork and fabulous sportsmanship throughout the day.  The girls’ attitude and commitment to netball and each other at the tournament was exemplary. Well done Ladies!
