Aldridge School Students have been working to support Aldridge Local History Society and Aldridge Great War Project by the production of poppies. Students are going to be continuing with the production of these decoration pieces until the event in November.
COMMEMORATION OF THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
POPPY ROAD PROJECT 2018
Station Road, more than any other road in Aldridge, represents the part that local people played in the First World War. Not only did forty men from the road serve, but it was from the railway station that many more travelled to and from war. And of course it was from the station that patients arrived to be treated at our two military hospitals.
For all of these reasons, there could be no more fitting place to commemorate the end of the war than in Station Road.
Aldridge Local History Society, Aldridge Great War Project and residents of Station Road, are working with other local groups, businesses, schools and uniformed organisations to turn Station Road into Poppy Road from 1-11th November 2018.
We plan to display silhouettes of soldiers along with thousands and thousands of poppies.
We need local people to knit or crochet poppies. Free patterns are available at Aldridge Library and completed poppies can be placed in the box in the library or at Lynda’s at Lazy Hill. You can also download patterns from our Facebook page at Poppy Road Project 2018.
Let’s work together to make Poppy Road a fitting tribute to those who gave so much.
We do hope that you can help to publicise the Poppy Road Project for us, knit or crochet poppies to help us or attend our Big Knit.
We have attached a poster ( please print off and display it or advertise it in your school newsletter maybe) and knitting and crocheting patterns for poppies.
